Stuffed Fruit Chaat

Finally, an Indian street chaat that’s completely guilt free.

Kulle or Kuliya as they are called are made by scooping out the different vegetables and fruits. You could call them vegetable and fruit cups. These are filled with #chick peas (boiled channa) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane) , spiced with black chaat masala and drizzled with lemon juice.

What’s better than fresh fruit and vegetables skins peeled, and of course hollowed out and topped with salty tangy spices, chickpeas, and jewel bright pomegranate seeds? Just about nothing.

The best kuliyas are available in Delhi chaat wallas is at #Hira Lal Chaat Waale, who is located in Chawri Bazar.

#Chawri Bazar has a huge paper market and is a busy area. It was really exciting to see the preparation of Kulle. I was gone there to buy invitation cards and by chance I saw these kulle and I was surprised to see this amazing chaat.

The most popular vegetables and fruits used to make these cups are potatoes, mango, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, banana, apple, pineapple. One can use boiled potatoes, and sweet potatoes but it is normally roasted in the tandoor. These impart a wonderful flavor on their own.

Here is the method how to prepare Kulle or Kuliya

For Potatoes

1. Choose big sized potatoes, boil or roast, if you want you can also choose small size potatoes.

2. Cut it into two halves and scoop the center

3. Chop a little from the bottom so that the cup can stand.

4. Sprinkle salt.

5. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

6. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

For Mangoes

1. Choose medium size mangoes, you can also choose bigger one too.

2. Cut it into two halves and scoop the center

3. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

4. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

For Cucumbers

1. Peel the cucumbers and Cut into 2 inch pieces.

2. Scoop and sprinkle salt.

3. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

4. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

For Tomatoes

1. Chop 1/4 from the top and just a wee bit from the bottom so the cup can stand.

2. Scoop out the pulp and sprinkle salt.

3. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

4. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

For Sweet Potato

1. Roast and peel the sweet potato.

2. Cut into 2 inch length pieces.

3. Scoop and sprinkle salt.

4. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

5. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

For Banana

1. Peel the banana, cut into two.

2. Making V slits scoop out length wise.

3. Fill with #chick peas (boiled channa) try to use smaller channa (Pindi chole) and #pomegranate pearls (anaar ke daane)

4. Add Chaat masala, Lemon juice and Coriander leaves

Tips:

1. Similarly one can use different fruits to make these cups.

2. For best result chilled these fruits, vegetables and the filling.

3. Once these both are chilled just fill the cups, drizzle masala and lemon juice.
